His Wings Ranch

Making Great Progress For the Kids

Loma Linda University Visits the ranch

Loma Linda brought speech therapy students and physical therapy students to the ranch in January for a one day trip.  Together with our staff, we saw 30 children and gave the parents strategies and treatment ideas for their little ones.

In the past Loma Linda, Point Loma, and Northern Arizona universities have all come along side His Wings to also help bring help in the areas of speech therapy and occupational therapy. The universities bring both their students and professors to see the children through one day clinics and equip our team to better implement future treatment.
We’ve been building momentum as our program grows. Over the past year we have evaluated nearly 20 children who struggle with neurodiverse disorders such as autism. The need is huge and the specialists are few. Our ranch has the opportunity to expand to meet the needs of the community of Ensenada through our use of therapy and special educators and our newly built facilities.  Our hearts break for those children struggling with autism and for the families desperate for help.

For this reason, we would like to expand our program to include two part time people with experience in the behavioral and educational areas and are praying for the support and resources to provide for
the additional therapists.  In the meantime, Susan is taking many classes online to improve the care of this very specific population.
Many areas of expertise do not exist here in Ensenada nor are they financially attainable for the families who struggle to just put food on the table and provide proper shelter and clothing for their children. We are praying for the Lord to bring more partners to come along side us whether that be financially (to help with the new salaries, and items that we may need moving forward) or professionally to teach us how to better serve the children with neurodiverse struggles.

More About Our Therapy Program

Therapy is the first of the 6 paths that together change kids lives. Therapy is our mainstay. Sue is a professionally trained and seasoned physical therapist from San Diego with decades of experience before coming to Mexico.  She has been providing physical therapy anyway she can for the past 20 plus years in Mexico which often involved setting up therapy mats outdoors in the dirt. Whatever it takes to assist the kids who need it.

After so many years providing remote therapy His Wings ranch now has indoor facilities for the fist time.  We just finished repairing and improving a portable building donated from the United States by Horizon Church North County and repaired and improved by Serving Hands International.  The building has two large therapy rooms where the kids receive Physical, Occupational, Behavioral and Speech Therapies. The parents are extremely encouraged to feel the love of Jesus being poured out upon their cherished children.

Kids in wheelchairs and those wearing braces aren’t able to experience movement typical of children their age. They need therapy just to compensate for their lack of mobility. When you add in the additional challenges of physical disabilities like cerebral palsy, spina bifida, down syndrome and the regulatory and behavioral needs of autism it becomes more clear why  therapy is in high demand.
Our next university clinic will be in March when occupational therapy, physical therapy and orthotics will visit us for several days from Northern Arizona University. We would love to have the new therapists in place and ready to train before then.
